Marrying God

Have you ever thought about getting married to God? You might be surprised to know that marrying God is the very reason for our existence.
If you have not thought about it, please read on and consider the gravity of what is at stake.

First and foremost, we were created by God. It stands to reason that He made us for a purpose. We were made to love Him with all of our heart, mind and soul.
But, we are not programmed to love God automatically. He has given us free will to choose to love Him or reject Him. He certainly does not need us but the real mystery is this – He wants us. He wants a personal relationship with every single person. “For God so loved the world that He sent His Son so that whoever believes in Him would not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16).” All of us were created by God but there is a second creation necessary to have a personal relationship with God. We are born once in the flesh but we must be born again in the Spirit.

Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation, the old has gone and the new has come.
2 Corinthians 5:17

I tell you the truth unless a man is born again,
he cannot see the kingdom of God.
John 3:3

When we are married, we lose our identity as a single person by becoming One Flesh with our spouse. New life is created by God in the union of husband and wife. The pledge to love unconditionally forever is a covenant that makes us no longer two but one. Notice that in the act of marriage, God joins us, He creates a life that did not exist before the marriage.

Now, think of God in relationship to the world. He has planned to redeem mankind by marrying us. Jesus Christ is the New Adam and every believer in Christ is the New Eve. God is undoing all the sin that separated the human race from Him by removing the sin through the forgiveness given by Christ through the cross. If anyone places their faith in Christ for the forgiveness of their sins and accepts Christ as their Savior and Lord, they are in effect marrying Christ. They enter into the New Covenant where all that belongs to us becomes His and all that belongs to Him becomes ours. The Divine Exchange is the offer from God to take our sins and receive His perfect righteousness. This fact is the crux of the Gospel, the Good News for mankind!

All believers become the church and the church is the Bride of Christ according to Ephesians 5. When we die, we will be resurrected to marry Christ corporately at the Wedding Supper of the Lamb (Revelation 19:9 and 21:2). In a nutshell, the cosmic, gracious plan of God is marriage to all who will exchange vows of love with Him. Marriage was in the beginning and the ending of the Bible. Marrying God is your calling and eternal purpose.

Final thought, read God’s Word daily to get to know the God who loves you. For this particular topic, the Holy Spirit will show you His plan through all the pages from start to finish. Take a look at Isaiah 54:4-8 and all of Isaiah 62.

I have always liked this thought. It gives a whole new “feel” to our relationship to God because actually a marriage is the closest relationship we have on earth!!
